Building a habit

If you noticed, my first post back was second June, I've also started my Homework for Life and Daily Reflection on the first of June. As second June is a Monday and the start of the week for most people, it makes it ideal to start a habit.  Daniel H. Pink in his book When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing talks about finding the perfect time to do anything, like starting a habit. Knowing the science to make it easier, to increase your chances of succeeding. The first day of the week, month or year are good times.  It was my favourite book. I gave it away to a stranger for a book exchange project.  Since the start of the month, other habits I'm building are meditating daily using the daily meditation tracks provided by Insight Timer and checking in daily on a self-care app called Finch. It's been a lot of fun using these two apps to help me build habits I want to keep.  If you do download them, send me a message so we can keep each other accountable. Studies h...

questions

life happens in a blink of an eye, 5 months have passed do you remember what you set out to do in January? how close are you to your goal? or have you pivoted, shifted what you want to do? will you be proud of yourself in 7 months time? what are you putting off till tomorrow? what small teeny tiny baby step can you take today to bring you closer to your goal? breathe in breathe out now, what is something you can do for yourself right this moment?

Question to Bree: What's this obsession with self-improvement?

What's this obsession with self improvement? If you're not improving yourself every single day, then what are you doing? Why are you living? Are you living? What is your end goal?  What is your main purpose in life? Why do you live? I want to be the best version of myself. I want to not be the best person in the room but the hardest worker in the room. I want to show other people that you don't have to be born rich.  You can get rich by outworking people. You can get rich by working on yourself. Discovering what you love. Discovering what you can give to others. You can be rich. Monetarily rich. But not just that rich.  Rich in life. Rich in purpose. Rich in positivity. I don't want to be one of the many soulless people I see on the trains or in the buses. Yes, maybe when they're at work, they're living their purpose. But off work, they're zombies. They give so much at work, they've lost their lives. Who are they without work? I want me to be the same m...

What's the one thing you absolutely have to do in your day?

I stopped writing for a while now.  5 days to be exact. There's a post in my drafts. 11 days since I published anything. Life has gone on great. I rested my eyes, listened to podcasts, learnt, created, engaged a little on Twitter, bouldered (!!), hanged out with friends and family.  Life's been pretty great. But I miss writing. It's that little tiny nagging voice that says "Hello, you haven't written today" whenever I don't open up blogger to pen my thoughts after my shower.  Or it's that whisper of "You don't like writing anymore?" from the best friend in my head. Write.  Because you have to. Because you want to.  Because you love to do it. Why do anything if not for the sake of loving it?  I'm not saying it has to be writing.  What's your thing ?   What's the thing you absolutely have to do in your day and then you lie in bed staring at the ceiling before bed and go.. "Ah, I love today." because you did it.

Are you proud of you today?

If your answer is yes.  That's all that matters. If your answer is no, what can you do better tomorrow? If you strive to be proud of yourself every single day, you're on the right path. Congratulations! You are an awesome human being. --- I'm proud of you today Brienne. (:

How did you grow?

Image
"Life's too short to waste on regrets, choose wisely." Eugene Seah In this YouTube video, Eugene shared about his life journey and how he became a life coach. He reminds us that money can be achieved when you find meaning in work. Don't be a corporate zombie.  I like this quote Merlin commented under the video.  I think he was referencing Srikumar Rao 's words.    Wherever you are in life right now, be it success or failure, how did you grow?

Someday is Today

I promise you there is not a person in the world who is lying on their deathbed, wishing they had watched a little more TV or played a few more video games or waited just a little while longer to make their dreams come true.  (from the book Someday is Today by Matthew Dicks )      @#$%. those words shot me. so many tales I've told the world but I haven't fulfilled one.  So many dreams left for dead. I shot them down because I'm afraid.  What are you so afraid of? What are you going to tell your future kids someday?  That you stayed at a job you stopped growing at for fear you'll run out of money living your dreams? Is running out of money worse than killing your dreams?  Would you rather die poor or die not trying to live your dreams once? I'm a coward. I hate being a coward. I hate being rooted to the ground, not moving. I hate complacency, stagnancy, I hate the place I'm in right now.  Thinking about growing, stepping out of my comfort zon...

How do you speak to yourself?

Marisa Peer says the language we use to speak with ourselves is very important. There's a 4% chance of getting into the football club. You gotta think, "I'm in the 4%".  There's a 20% chance of surviving this complicated surgery. You gotta think "I'm in the 20%"  [To know more, listen to it here ]   I noticed that my daily writings are basically me speaking to myself. I typed "You need to learn to do what's best for your body, your health, your career. Make the wise decisions. Treat yourself as your best friend. Write what you're working on. What did you learn today?" Yesterday, I learnt that I value writing. I wrote even after coming home from a very late night. I also like looking at what I thought at that time. I went ahead and published the  draft on my main page.  I learnt that you could very much lose yourself in a relationship when you love someone. You got to find the balance.  These questions helped me find my center and ...

Questions for you

Would you make yourself happy if you know you could? Would you try to live out your dreams if you know you could? Would you let others stop you? --- Shared my dreams with a friend this afternoon.  They were so huge it took a while before my words came out of my mouth.  Can I do it? What steps am I taking to make it happen? Life is not just about living day by day.  Life is about thriving, making the best out if it, getting out of bed ready to work for something you believe in.  What do you believe in? What are you willing to work hard for? What shit sandwich are you willing to eat? Or, what will you accept in your life? Love,  Brienne, 21 March 2022, 9.49 p.m.

#13 Coronavirus

What has the coronavirus done for you?  In the beginning, it brought a lot of fear, panic, sadness and anxiety.  I remember taking the bus after heading out to buy necessities, after a period of time staying home. Seeing places so empty, like a scene right out a zombie apocalypse. It was really disturbing to see places that used to be bustling with people, empty. People were scared of people, us afraid of one another and loathing the ones that do not don a mask or removing the mask to sneeze or cough.  But what has it done for you? It made me treasure the people around me, the time that I have, or do not have, it got me to think hard about what matters most, be it people or things I did with my time.  As what Noah Kagan mentioned in the Noah Kagan | OkDork, Don't Do What You Love | The Wolf's Den #78 Youtube video,  "to enjoy life in any aspects is to enjoy the ride. I have a mantra that I read in the morning, it says,  Enjoy the journey, not the destinati...
